If James Toney is trying to convince people that his signing with the UFC isn't a sideshow, his most recent interview may not do him any favours.

Toney, a former heavyweight champion in the world of boxing, had some choice words on who he would like to face in his octagon debut, which he shared with the crew at HDNet's Inside MMA.

"I want Brock Lesnar. I'm the heavyweight champion of the world versus the UFC champion. That'd be a hell of a match," stated Toney.

"Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, or whatever his name is. It doesn't matter. I'm not a sideshow. This is the real deal here," he added.

At 41-years-old, Toney has accumulated a boxing record of 72-6-3 with two no contests, but hasn't contended for a title since 2006. He now turns his focus to mixed martial arts where he seems to be enjoying his latest challenge.

"The training is hard, I love it," explained Toney. "I get off on hard things like that, the harder the better for me."

Despite his new found desire to compete in the UFC, Toney still feels passionately about boxing and is adamant that he deserves respect for all he has accomplished during his career in the ring.

"I'm a big fan of MMA, don't get me wrong, I've never said nothing less about the sport. But when you come disrespect the man who's 20 years deep and has won 12 world titles in six different weight divisions and say the MMA sport is better than boxing, you got to be kidding me."

While his signing with the UFC has been officially announced, there is no date or opponent in place yet for Toney.
